Kyrie Irving’s vaccine stance even more confusing with clarification

Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving’s views on vaccination in the NBA and ended up making things a bit more confusing.

The Brooklyn Nets face an odd challenge with Kyrie Irving right now as their star point guard has yet to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Due to a vaccine mandate that is in place in New York City, Irving is unable to play for the Nets at Barclays Center.

While it at one point seemed that Irving was totally against receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, he has since clarified that this is actually about something bigger to him.

According to a report from The Athletic‘s Shams Charania, Irving isn’t actually against vaccines, but rather he’s “upset people are losing their jobs due to vaccine mandates.” In the report, Charania goes on to quote a source who explained that Irving’s actual goal here is to apparently be a “voice for the voiceless.”

The Brooklyn Nets have previously said Kyrie Irving won’t be able to play or practice until he’s vaccinated

Charania’s report comes out as Irving  and the Nets are currently in an interesting and challenging position.

At the moment, due to his vaccination status and the COVID-19 vaccine regulations in play, Irving isn’t able to participate in any games or practices with his team.

While at one point it appeared as if Irving would be able to play in some sort of part time role as he isn’t able to play at the Barclays Center due to COVID-19 regulations, the Nets stated Irving will not be able to play or practice with the Nets “until he is eligible to be a full participant.”
